This page lists everything FortShield collects, in full, and who sees it. If it is not on this page, we do not collect it. Questions go to christian@techfort.net and a person answers.
Payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your name, email address, billing country, the last four digits of the card, and the amount, so we can send your keys and your receipt and answer billing questions. We never see the full card number; Stripe keeps it.
The FortShield service checks in with our server about every 15 minutes. Each check-in sends:
Our server also notes, from the connection itself, when the check-in happened and a two-letter country code supplied by our hosting provider. We keep the country, never your street address or your IP address.
When you hit FIX IT, or when FortShield runs a check on its own, it gathers a short diagnostic: which programs are running, which browser extensions are installed, recent error text, and the settings that look wrong. To turn that into a plain-English explanation and choose the right fix, that diagnostic is sent through TechFort's account to Anthropic's Claude API. No personal files, documents, email, or typed text are included; only the technical summary. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through the API is not used to train their models. We cap this at a set number of explanations per computer per month; past the cap, FIX IT still runs the fixes without the explanation.
Each of these sees only what its job needs. We do not sell, rent, or share any of it with anyone else, ever, and we do not use it for advertising.
A remote session is the one moment when a person can see what is on your screen, so it gets its own section. The tool is able to connect without putting a prompt on your screen first, which is true of every remote support tool in this industry. Our rule is that a person connects only when you ask, with one exception for an active security threat, and it is written out in the terms. While a person is connected you can watch the session and end it whenever you like. We do not record remote sessions to video, and nothing from a session is stored on our server. Ask what we have done on a computer and we will tell you; a session list is being built into the status page. If you would rather no one be able to connect at all, email or call and we remove the remote access tool from that computer, and the rest of FortShield keeps working.
Account and key records are kept while your subscription is active and for 90 days after it ends, in case you come back or need a receipt. Check-in and fix history is kept for 12 months so we can show you what happened and spot a fix that keeps failing. The security team's own records follow Huntress's retention. If you want your records deleted sooner after cancelling, email us and we do it.
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The Dark and Light switch remembers your choice in your own browser and nothing else. The status page sends your key to our server to look up your computers and stores nothing in your browser. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which sees the request for the font file.
Our server and database run on Cloudflare in the United States. Keys and check-ins are stored with access limited to TechFort. The software on your computer keeps its lease and settings in a folder only administrators can read. The playbooks that FIX IT runs are signed, and the software refuses to run one whose signature does not match, so nobody can slip a changed script onto your computer through us.
FortShield does not read, record, or intercept your email, messages, calls, or anything you type. It watches programs and settings, not conversations.
If we ever learn that data we hold about you was accessed by someone who should not have it, we tell you by email within 30 days of finding out, as Washington law requires, and we say what was involved and what we did about it.
We email you receipts, your keys, renewal reminders, a heads-up when a card fails, and notice of changes to this page or the terms. Those are part of the service and cannot be turned off while you subscribe. Anything else, like a tip or a new feature announcement, is rare and has an unsubscribe link.
FortShield is a business service for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information about children. If your staff use the computer, it is worth letting them know it is monitored; ask us and we will send you wording you can paste in an email.
You can ask to see everything we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, at any time, by email. We answer within a few business days, and the answer comes from a person.
If we change what FortShield collects, this page changes first and you get an email before the software does. We will not quietly add anything to the list above.
