Terms of service
Last updated September 11, 2026
This is the agreement between you and Tech Fort LLC of Spokane Valley, Washington ("TechFort", "we", "us") for the FortShield service. We wrote it in plain English on purpose. If any part of it is unclear, email christian@techfort.net and a person will answer you.
A subscription, priced per computer, that installs protection and monitoring software on Windows 10 and 11 computers you own or are authorized to manage, and gives you TechFort's help on the terms of your tier.
Prices are per computer. Annual billing is ten months' price paid up front for twelve months of service. If we raise prices, the new price applies to new customers; you keep the price you signed up at for as long as your subscription stays active.
The installer puts these on each computer:
By installing FortShield you give TechFort and the security team it works with permission to monitor the computer, run fixes on it, change settings on it, isolate it from the network if a real threat is found, and connect to it remotely on the terms in the next section. Fixes run without asking first when the tray shows FIXING.
You confirm that you own each computer or have the authority to manage it, and that the people who use it know it is monitored and that TechFort can connect to it remotely.
Worth knowing before you buy: a few states expect staff to be told when a work computer is monitored. Most owners mention it once and that is the end of it. If you want a hand with the wording, ask us and we will send you something you can paste in an email.
Said plainly, because you should hear it from us and not find out later: the remote access tool FortShield installs is technically able to connect to the computer without asking first and without a prompt on your screen. That is how every remote support tool used by every IT company works. Most never tell you.
Here is the rule we hold ourselves to. A person at TechFort connects only when you ask, by pressing GET HELP, by calling, or by emailing. The single exception is an active security incident, meaning the 24/7 security team has found a real threat on that computer. In that case we act first, because minutes matter, and we tell you what we did the same day.
While a person is connected, the session is on your screen in front of you. You can watch all of it, and you can end it whenever you want by closing the session window, disconnecting the network, or shutting the computer down. We do not record remote sessions to video. Ask us at any time what we have done on a computer and we will tell you. We are building a session list into your status page so you will not have to ask.
You can have remote access removed. Email or call and we take the remote access tool off that computer, normally the same business day. Everything else keeps working: the monitoring, Microsoft Defender, the 24/7 security team, and the FIX IT button. The honest tradeoff is that nobody at TechFort can look at the computer for you, so GET HELP becomes help over the phone, and the $49 remote incident on Solo cannot be delivered. Putting it back takes a few minutes and your say-so.
Each computer gets one key. The key binds to the first computer it is installed on. To move it to a new computer, email us; we release the key and the old computer cleans itself up. Do not share keys or post them publicly. A key that is shared, sold, or obtained fraudulently is revoked without a refund.
Payment is by card through Stripe. The card is kept on file and charged automatically each month or year until you cancel. You can change the card, change the number of computers, or cancel from the billing link in your receipt or by emailing us. Adding computers past 5 moves you to Team and its price; the change is prorated by Stripe. Sales tax is added where the law requires it.
FortShield is a subscription that renews by itself. When you buy, the card you enter is charged the amount shown at checkout that day, and then charged again at the same amount at the start of every billing period, monthly or yearly depending on what you picked, until you cancel. The exact amount, the billing period, and this renewal are shown on the checkout page before you pay, and again in the receipt Stripe emails you and on the download page after you pay.
How to cancel, any time. Go to fortshield.techfort.net/status, enter your key, and press Manage billing or cancel. That opens your billing page where you can cancel with a click. You can also email christian@techfort.net and a person cancels it for you. Cancelling stops the next charge; protection runs to the end of the period you already paid for and then the software removes itself.
Annual subscriptions. Before an annual subscription renews we email you a reminder at least 30 days ahead with the amount, the renewal date, and the cancel link, so a yearly charge never surprises you.
Price changes. The price you sign up at is the price you keep while your subscription stays active. If that ever has to change, you get 30 days' notice by email and the chance to cancel before it applies.
On Solo, FIX IT and the security team are included, and a TechFort person helping you remotely is not. Each time you use GET HELP to ask for a person, one incident is $49, charged to the card on file. One incident is one problem, worked until it is fixed or until we tell you it needs something outside FortShield. You see the fee before the ticket opens. If a problem was caused by FortShield itself, or by an install that did not go right, there is no fee. On Team and Managed, remote help is included and there is no incident fee.
If you are not happy in the first 30 days, email us and we refund your first charge in full, monthly or annual, no reason required. After 30 days, monthly charges are not refunded, and an annual subscription is not refunded for the remaining months. An incident fee is refunded if the person did not fix the problem and could not tell you why. Refunds go back to the card that paid.
Offboarding leaves the computer as it was, with Microsoft Defender still on and working. You can come back any time by buying again.
We promise the service described above, delivered with care by real people, and the 30-day guarantee. We do not promise that no threat will ever get through. No protection product can honestly promise that, and we will not. FortShield reduces the chances and puts people on it fast when something does happen.
FortShield does not include backup unless you add it. A fix can, rarely, change something you wanted kept; every fix logs what it changed and can be reversed, and you should still keep your own backups.
Beyond the guarantee, the service is provided as-is. We are not liable for lost data, lost profits, downtime, or consequential damage, and our total liability to you is capped at the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some states do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Security actions can interrupt work. If the security team believes a computer is compromised, they can isolate it from the network to contain the problem, and a fix can close programs or restart a service. Those actions are the point of the service, and they can pause what someone was doing. We keep them as short as the situation allows.
False alarms happen. A legitimate program can occasionally be flagged or blocked. Tell us and we clear it. We are not responsible for the time lost while that happens.
No implied warranties. Other than the 30-day guarantee and the promises written on this page, FortShield is provided without any warranty of any kind, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will catch every threat.
You are responsible for authorization. If you install FortShield on a computer you were not entitled to manage, or without telling the people who use it that it is monitored, you are responsible for the consequences, and you agree to cover any claim against TechFort that comes from it.
Not insurance, not a substitute for backups. FortShield reduces risk; it does not insure against loss. Keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose, or add the backup option.
Who can buy. FortShield is sold to businesses and adults 18 and over for computers they own or manage. It is not for use by children.
FortShield is built and run by TechFort on top of services from Huntress (the 24/7 security team), Syncro (monitoring and remote help), Microsoft (Defender and Windows), Stripe (payments), and Anthropic (plain-English explanations of diagnostic results, with no personal files sent). Each has its own terms for the part it provides. What each one sees is listed on the privacy page.
If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we email you 30 days before it takes effect. Keeping the service after that date means you accept the change. If you do not, cancel before it and the old terms apply until then.
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Washington. Any dispute is handled in the courts of Spokane County, Washington, unless the law says otherwise for where you are. If any part of this agreement is found unenforceable, the rest still stands.
Everything FortShield collects, in full, is on the privacy page. The short version: the computer's name, its Windows version, whether the protection is running, and what FIX IT did. Never your files.
